Lantern - Demo 03

Thanks to "Anonymous" who provided this gem.  Back then, it was just drone.  Before the white noise crept in and started to devalue any concept of musicality.

This is what happens when you work night shift in a comic book warehouse and live in a cave.

Bryce Brushnefski - v4, samples
Joseph Henaghan - v4, drones
Tony Hopkins - Screams and Cries.

Review of Lantern - Pupa on splicetoday.com

http://www.splicetoday.com/music/three-larks-in-boomerang-schwing

Judging by Joseph Henaghan's blog, he is something of a musical-project slut, lending a discordant guitar to assist and enable any and all comers. What makes Henaghan unique, in my eyes, is that downloadable evidence of his every creative entanglement surfaces on archive.org, that steadfast outpost of random modern obscurity and ubiquity. His motto—“I will make sounds that melt your head”—should tell you everything you need to know, though it is recommended that you give his oeuvre a test drive to get a cursory sense of what he’s capable of.
If you don’t have time for that, just grab the 30-minute long “Pupa,” which Henaghan cut with Bryce Brushnefski, another guitar interrogator of unusual sensitivity and tenderness, as Lantern. The discordant fruits of the duo’s musical union are blowtorch subtle, with a great deal of atonal parry, holler, and heave: sometimes the point seems to be cock (rock)-measuring blunder, sometimes there are wonderfully wrongheaded and tinnitus-enabling attempts to escape Earth’s orbit, sometimes they appear to lose consciousness altogether, and then sometimes both determinedly uncouth axmen seem to be feeling their way blindly through a cruel, unforgiving world free of guideposts, mood stabilizers, and clean amplifier tone.
What I enjoy, though, is that as much as Henaghan and Brushnefski are making “Pupa” up as they go along, there’s a self-cannibalizing hook/motif at the core of this white-hot navel gaze that offers the listener something of a sonic signal light to follow through to the light at whatever k-hole they’re leading you into. I stop just short of using the phrase “idiosyncratic sonic signal” because either these dudes are serious mid-career Dead C. stans or I stumbled into the mother of all coincidences."

Lantern VS THE BEEF

http://archive.org/details/LanternVsIrradiatedBeef

Bryce Brushnefksi - Guitars
Joseph Henaghan - Guitars
Jason Ormsby - Drums
Chuck Tetreault - Bass

Jason Ormsby (A.k.a. Jelvis, J-O etc) has been a musical co-conspirator of mine since day one. I remember in 1998 him talking of creating a Irradiated Alien Bovine persona to torture willing ears with. This project was long delayed by the scattering of its players across zip codes and time zones. Recorded in the basement of the Koffee Katt in Plattsburgh NY.

Inverse black hole journey into the center of a round corner. Only a few ears were ripped to shreds in the spewing of this blasphemic anti-music sonic fuckery. Surprisingly, only guitars were used to create this sonic abuse. Who needs fancy noise machines when armed with blazing loud amplifiers, dark beer and loved ones.

Bryce Brushnefski - Guitar
Joseph Henaghan - Guitar

Recorded at 56 Elm St Plattsburgh 2010(+/-)ish.

Of all the fools I have had the pleasure of crafting noise with, my longest running co-conspirator has been my kid brother John. I still have a tape him and I created when we were 9 and 4 respectively where he was playing drums on an inflatable pool tube and I was playing a tennis racket as a guitar.

Our first guitar was actually Johns, a Aria Diamond Fender Jazzmaster knockoff that a family friend had acquired and sold to us for 30 bucks including a Crate P.O.S. practice amp. Being stolen, the guitar had respectively been painted with acrylic paint to a American flag. For Christmas that year, John got a drum kit of some sort, that is still kicking around to this day. My first experience "Jamming" was definitely rocking out with my loved brother in our living room. Both of us being completely self taught and mutually twisted has continually manifest itself in our style and approach.

Nobody understand what I'm doing musically/spiritually/emotionally like this fucker. Its like we're brothers or something.

10.21.00
as bucky was driving to work the other day he spotted a hitchhiker on the side of the road. as he pulled up closer to the homless hippie it ended up to be no one else then joseph henaghan from the now defunct three shades to eve.
"hey joe, how have you been?"
"pretty good, i gave up playing guitar after my band broke up because i saw much more capitol gain in playing the bass guitar."
"joe, i think i have a somewhat profitable proposition for you."

Which of course never happened. The archive.org wayback machine is pretty fancy.

Deep Cover - Tales of the American...

"Outsider Art" if anything. I have never met the creator of this. My former housemate knew the kid, and he made piles of these fucked up dubstep-noise trip out albums. I only have the one.
